Antique English Settle

This original English oak settle dates to the early 1800s. Found and reclaimed in East Sussex, the settle shares with the chest and the chair the distinction of great antiquity. Its high back was a protection from the draughts of buildings, protection which was sometimes increased by the addition of winged ends. Most frequently placed near the fire in the common sitting-rooms, this piece has spent the past 100 plus years in an English country tavern. A superb example of English history.
