Antique Monk Bench
Having spent the majority of its life in a farmhouse in Cardigan Bay in Wales (a large inlet of the Irish Sea, indenting the west coast of Wales, known for its scenic wide beaches & coves), this original antique Monk Bench dates to the early to mid 1800s. Constructed from solid oak timbers, this quintessential seating boasts character and charm. Offering a dual purpose as a table, where the table top sits atop a chest, and when required the top tips to form the backrest of the bench and the chest top becomes the seat (it may sound complicated, its NOT, just one easy movement of the table top is required to turn it into seat & vice verse to turn it back to a table). With square legs and arms, treble panels to the seat base and two lift-up seat panels reveal a generous storage area, this antique monks bench is in great condition with the most stunning age and patina to the oak timbers (trust us, its 10 times more beautiful in the flesh!). Today, it’s perfect as a bench in a hallway entrance, a large kitchen, or a mudroom.
