At Home in HOME BEAUTIFUL
Take a peek at our owners, Leanne & Trent Carter’s home, as featured in the May edition of Home Beautiful. Venture from our quintessential duckeggBLUE store and see how their light-filled 1880 workman’s cottage also embraces the old in a quintessentially modern manner, displaying the many unique found antiques and decorative objects from Leanne’s extensive treasure hunts through Europe teamed back with her own signature style.
For this months Home Beautiful Magazine, quintessential duckeggBLUE owners Leanne and Trent opened the doors of their Rozelle home for the special “Makers Issue”. Whilst not “makers” themselves in the strict sense of the word it is obvious that as “purveyors of found antiques and decorative objects” that the appreciation, collection, curation and promotion of artisans work and bespoke craftsmanship, is central in both their personal and working life. HB editor, Wendy Moore, also notes “Its not just the makers that have inspired this issue, its the homeowners who transformed their own spaces by renovating, restoring and restyling a house until it is a perfect home”. In this sense it not only features Leanne and Trent as connoisseurs of artisan work but also as creative homemakers themselves. We also like think of it as a sort of “behind the scenes” of the quintessential duckeggBLUE store and a great inside look at Leanne’s inventive and elegant display tactics!
The beautifully written piece by Annette Dasey opens by saying “Heart and soul emanate from every sumptuously decorated space in the Sydney home of Leanne and Trent who spend their workdays surrounded by equally gorgeous wares at their treasure trove of a store, Quintessential duckeggBLUE” and continues in equally eloquent style! We love the detailed descriptions of the home and Leanne and Trent’s observations and humorous anecdotes: apparently they don’t cook, they don’t use the beautiful clawfoot bath or hang clothes up! Got to love the honesty and down-to-earth character of these guys!
One of our favourite quotes from Leanne:
“I tend towards less is more..there are pieces that furnish a home, and then there are those that define it.We collect and curate pieces that do the latter”
We may soon make this the Quintessential duckeggBLUE mantra!
The piece is packed with inspiring ideas & information concerning everything from renovation tales, a love of black and white typography, favourite objects and bespoke pieces, an English countryside childhood and daily life with their much loved dogs, of which two pose for the camera (the other two were not so impressed with the camera crew!)
Sumptuously styled by long time collaborator John Mangila and photographed by Chris Warnes we think it “beautifully” encapsulates the ethos and style of Quintessential duckeggBLUE in a very personal way!
