Developed by an engineer for industrial use, Jean-Louis Domecq was a machinist frustrated by the lack of heavy-duty task lamps for his work. He wanted something that could articulate into a range of positions without interfering with electrical wiring (which was often a fire hazard in articulating lamps), and that could also withstand the conditions of an industrial workshop.
In 1950, Domecq created a mechanism for the articulating joints of his lamps that actually eliminated wires. He spent years drawing up plans to industrialize production, and then launched his company, Jieldé, which is just his initials, JLD, pronounced in French (zhee-el-DAYH). In 1953, he began selling his Standard lamps, a floor model and a desk model, all quickly welcomed and made popular in an industrial context.
Today, quintessential duckeggBLUE salvages original Jielde lighting from every corner of France. Once used in an industrial factory or workplace, we either preserve the original coloured metal that has a beautiful, time-worn patina, or we strip and polish the surface back to the base metal, revealing the metal surface.
Available in 1 & 2 arm heights: perfect as desk or side lamps, and 3 & 4 arm: making them ideal floor lamps, our covetable collection of Jielde Lamps is worth shining a light on.
